Men's Soccer Drops Game to JWU

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- Sophomores Eric Flath (Warwick, R.I.) and Michael Gliniecki (Baltimore, Md.) each netted a goal and two assists to lead Johnson & Wales to a 4-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Suffolk Tuesday afternoon at Pierce Stadium.

Senior Barry Phillips (West Glover, Vt.) enabled the host Wildcats (8-4-3, 7-1 Great Northeast) to forge a 1-1 tie at the break with a goal in the 19th minute of action after junior Pierre-Yves N’Goran (Abibjan, Ivory Coast) had given the visiting Rams (7-5, 4-4 Great Northeast) an early 1-0 advantage just 1:06 into the contest. Flath gave Johnson & Wales the lead for good 3:24 after intermission after converting a Gliniecki feed, and junior Jeremiah Schenzel (Carson City, Nev.) extended the hosts’ advantage in the 72nd minute after converting passes from Flath and Gliniecki, who added an insurance marker off a Phillips feed with 3:45 remaining to account for the final score.

Freshman Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) picked up the win in goal for Johnson & Wales with three saves on the day, while freshman Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, Mass.) made eight stops in net for Suffolk as the Wildcats outshot the Rams by a 29-7 margin for the match.

Suffolk hosts Mount Ida in a Great Northeast outing on Saturday evening at Dilboy Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Johnson & Wales hosts Bridgewater State in a non-league contest on Thursday afternoon at Pierce Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m.
