Women's Soccer Ends Season With 2-11 Record
SOMERVILLE, Mass.-- Freshman Kelly Saucier (Waterville, Maine) netted a pair of goals to lead Simmons to a 6-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Suffolk in the regular season finale for both teams Tuesday afternoon at Dilboy Stadium.
Saucier gave the visiting Sharks (8-8-2, 7-4-2 Great Northeast) the only goal they would need seven minutes into the contest when she converted feeds from freshman Allie Megna (North Hampton, N.H.) and sophomore Emily DiNuovo (Palmer, Mass.), and DiNuovo extended Simmons’ edge to 2-0 in the 17th minute on an assist from Megna. Senior Christina Aldrich’s (Foxboro, Mass.) unassisted marker in the 29th minute gave the visitors a 3-0 lead, and senior Sarah Daniel (Rochester, Mass.) gave the Sharks a 4-0 advantage at the break when she converted a pass from sophomore Ashley Curtis (Bethlehem, Conn.). Tallies by Megna and Saucier that came 4:19 apart midway through the second half closed out the scoring for Simmons, as they came on assists from Aldrich, senior Andrea Caldwell (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman Katie Foley (Rochester, N.H.).
Sophomore Alma Barnes (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Simmons, making four stops over the final 66-plus minutes of play after sophomore Rachael Elliott (Amherst, N.H.) played the first 23-plus minutes of action, while sophomore Meghan McDonald (Easton, Mass.) made nine saves in net for the host Rams, who finish their inaugural varsity campaign at 2-11 both overall and in Great Northeast play.
Simmons will await its seeding in the upcoming Great Northeast playoffs, as pairings for this weekend’s championship will be announced by the conference office later this week.
