Suffolk University held a topping-off ceremony for the Modern Theatre residence hall at 525 Washington St. in late October.

The steel structure for the University’s fourth residence hall is now complete, and the celebration signifies that construction has reached its halfway point. Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino was the guest speaker.

The Modern Theatre residence hall will bring a 184-seat theater to Downtown Crossing and create 197 beds in suite-style student housing. The lobby space in front of the theater will double as a gallery.

An exhibit about the building’s history, The Modern Theater & the Boston-Hollywood Connection, which includes photographs of present-day construction, is at the University’s Adams Gallery through Nov. 30, 2009.
