New England Patriots Parade Advisory
Boston will join the New England Patriots in celebrating their Super Bowl LIII victory, which will bring them through the Suffolk University campus tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 5. As we have learned during previous celebrations, the city's salute to the Patriots is accompanied by some campus access concerns. Therefore, the University has made the difficult decision to cancel classes on campus that are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow. Morning classes ending before 10 a.m. and all classes beginning at 4 p.m. or later will be held as scheduled. Faculty are encouraged to implement their teaching continuity plans.
As spectators crowd the sidewalks it can be difficult for members of the University community to move between buildings, and Boston Police officers do not allow anyone to cross Tremont Street during the parade, further hindering movement around the campus.
The Suffolk University Police Department works closely with the Boston Police to ensure the safety of all spectators and building occupants along the parade route. University Police officers will be assigned at fixed posts to assist as needed.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow outside the Hynes Convention Center. It will travel along Boylston and Tremont streets—opposite the normal traffic flow—before ending at Cambridge Street. The parade will pass Smith Hall, Sargent Hall, and the 73 Tremont St. building.
Students, faculty, and staff are advised to plan for street closings and sidewalk congestion associated with the celebration.
- Crossing Tremont St.: Previous parades have shown that it will be difficult or impossible to cross Tremont Street two hours before as well as during and following the parade.
- Suffolk ID: There will be no entry to University buildings without a Suffolk ID card.
- No items may be thrown from University buildings, including confetti and the like.
- Parade viewing: Campus buildings offer limited parade viewing opportunities. Please be considerate of students studying nearby.
