Suffolk to Offer Data Science Bootcamp

University partners with Stack Education for a career-focused Data Science and Analytics non-credit certificate

Suffolk University and Boston-based Stack Education have partnered to offer a new Data Science and Analytics non-credit certificate starting in May 2020.

The program is designed to help professionals embark on or advance their technology careers, filling industry needs as data analysts, business analysts, data scientists, technical project managers, and a growing number of in-demand positions.

Suffolk University alumni who enroll in the program will receive a 10 percent discount.

“Our partnership with Stack Education allows us to rapidly respond to demand for high quality lifelong learning opportunities,” says Suffolk University College of Arts & Sciences Dean Maria Toyoda. “We intend to build on this effort to serve career changers and firms seeking to upskill their employees.”

The immersive 18-week “bootcamp” will give students a foundation in the fundamentals of data science and analytics and hands-on experience with the technology and tools used in the field today, including:

  • R and RStudio
  • Python
  • Tableau
  • Forecasting
  • Data Visualization
  • Programming Basics
  • Machine Learning
  • Statistical Modeling
  • SQL and MySQL
  • APIs
  • Google Sheets
  • Advanced Excel

The program is built to provide flexibility for working professionals using a hybrid model that combines in-person classes on the Suffolk University campus with online sessions. The bootcamp will easily transition to a fully remote format if necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With curriculum approved by Suffolk University faculty, Stack Education’s industry-practitioners will focus on the skills that employers are looking for, helping students apply course concepts to real world projects and build portfolios to showcase their work. Following completion, career mentors will provide professional guidance and coaching.
