Sawyer Business School welcomes new faculty

Nine professors bring a range of teaching, research, and real-world experience to the University

Li Chen

Li Chen

Assistant Professor, Marketing

Li Chen earned her PhD in business administration at the University of Missouri after receiving an MBA from Tulane University, with a concentration in finance and international business. As an instructor at the University of Missouri, she taught courses in marketing management and global marketing for several semesters.

Her research focuses on marketing strategy, digital marketing, innovation, and global marketing. Li has presented at several conferences, including the AMA Summer Marketing Educators Conference and the 27th Annual Robert Mittelstaedt Doctoral Symposium.

Mengyao Cheng

Mengyao Cheng

Assistant Professor, Accounting

Mengyao Cheng was previously an assistant professor at Boston College. During her five years at BC, she taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in federal taxation, and was a sophomore faculty advisor as well as an active member of the Accounting Department’s new faculty and PhD student recruiting committee.

Her teaching interests include tax, data analytics, financial accounting, and managerial accounting. Beyond teaching, her research focuses on disclosure and financial reporting, contracting, effects of regulation, governmental policies, and new technologies. She currently has several papers in progress.

Christine Duvivier

Christine Duvivier

Instructor, Management & Entrepreneurship

Christine Duvivier brings more than 20 years of professional experience in mentorship, teaching, and public speaking to Suffolk University. Since 2001, Christine has been the CEO of Positive Leaders LLC, which provides strategic mentorship and coaching for individuals, organizations, and families.

Christine has worked with Fortune 50 companies including DuPont, Eli Lilly, Ford, and 3M, as well as entrepreneurial, high-growth, technology, medical, educational, nonprofit, and youth organizations. Through this work, she has helped young adults and executives achieve promotions, increased compensation, and success in new careers.

Christine spends her free time as a volunteer career coach for Babson MBA students and is also a regular keynote speaker to MBA students and women alumni at MIT, Cornell, Babson, and Smith.

Michael Eisenstein

Michael Eisenstein

Instructor, Finance

Michael Eisenstein is a financial executive who brings more than 20 years of professional experience in corporate finance, treasury, capital market, and investment management to the classroom. Michael has worked in a high-level capacity for many large organizations throughout his career and is currently chief financial officer and treasurer for First Eagle Investment Management.

Michael previously worked as a senior lecturer in the Sawyer Business School, covering a diverse range of topics, including capital market instruments, the role of financial institutions in global markets, derivative securities, modern portfolio theory, fundamental statistics, pricing mathematics, and fintech. He is a certified financial analyst and treasury professional.

Mary Holley

Mary Holley

Instructor, Information Systems & Operations Management

A certified project management professional, Mary Holley brings more than 25 years of business and system experience to the classroom. In her previous positions she was director of enterprise resource planning at the Southcoast Health Group and vice president of consulting at Oracle, where she was responsible for leading clients through the implementation and optimization of the Oracle product suite.

Mary has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Bentley University, Mount Ida College, and Hellenic College. Her areas of expertise are large-scale project management, business process management, enterprise applications, and strategic planning.

Yuanxiang "John" Li

Yuanxiang (John) Li

Assistant Professor, Information Systems & Operations Management

John Li spent the past year as a visiting scholar at Iowa State University conducting information security and behavioral economics research. Before that, he was a visiting assistant professor at California State University, San Bernardino, where he was the sole instructor of Database Management and Policies, Information Systems and Technology, Computer Forensics, and Introduction to Management of Information Systems. He has also served as an assistant professor at Harbin Institute of Technology in China.

His primary research fields are information technology and privacy, information security compliance behavior, business analytics, experimental and behavioral economics, and game theory. He has published several papers and has others in progress examining connections between information technology, security, and digital business strategy.

Jordan McSweeney

Jordan McSweeney

Assistant Professor, Management & Entrepreneurship

Jordan McSweeney has spent the last two years as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Connecticut, where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses, including Principles of Management, Strategic Management, Essentials of Entrepreneurship, Motivating Individuals and Teams, and Managerial and Interpersonal Behavior.

His research focuses on exploring how entrepreneurs and organizations acquire resources and how socio-cognitive factors such as institutional logics, gender, and communication influence their ability to do so. He currently examines these problems in the context of crowdfunding, the gig economy, and hydraulic fracturing. He has been an ad hoc reviewer for journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.

Chenguang Shang

Chenguang Shang

Assistant Professor, Finance

Chenguang Shang joins Suffolk after working as an assistant professor at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, for the last year. Chenguang has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Advanced Managerial Finance, Corporate Finance, Financial Statement Analysis and Financial Modeling, Financial Modeling and Equity Analysis, and Financial Management.

His research focuses on a variety of topics across the finance industry, but he has a special interest in empirical corporate finance. His research portfolio includes publications in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Banking & Finance.

Erin Sullivan

Erin Sullivan

Associate Professor, Healthcare Administration

Erin Sullivan joins Suffolk University after working as the research and curriculum director at the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care. During her tenure at Harvard Medical School, she was also a lecturer within the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine. She has substantial teaching experience in the areas of leadership and organizational change and in case-based teaching and learning.

Her research expertise is in healthcare leadership and management, with a particular focus on primary care and global health. This fall, Erin is teaching Healthcare Leadership, Ethics, and Organizational Change as well as the MHA Program Capstone.
