The Adams Gallery at Suffolk University presents the work of faculty artists in the Imaginal/Imagining the World: The New England School of Art & Design Exhibit from Nov. 15, 2014, through Jan. 25, 2015.

The "Imaginal" theme refers to the imaginary and to the image. It also is the name for cells that allow caterpillars to metamorphose into butterflies—a powerful metaphor for the process of creating art. Visual and other artists have the unique ability to imagine something before it exists.

This open-ended theme encompasses the breadth of the work produced by the artists who teach at the New England School of Art & Design. The exhibit includes drawings, paintings, sculpture, and architectural models. How these faculty members relate to their own artistic practices is imperative to their ability to guide and nurture student artists.

A reception with the artists will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20.
