In honor of Peter Muse, JD ’81, and in celebration of a family whose commitment to justice spans generations, the Peter Muse, JD ’81 Memorial Award has been established at Suffolk University Law School.
Peter Muse would have celebrated his 45th Law School reunion at the upcoming June 4 Law Reunion Dinner and Awards Ceremony. In Peter’s memory, his brother, retired Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Christopher Muse, JD ’76 seeks to build a coalition of alumni and friends who are committed to increasing the number of students pursuing careers in public service trial work. Through this fund, The Muse Family aims to inspire future lawyers to follow in Peter Muse’s unwavering dedication to justice and the courageous defense of liberty.
About the late Peter Muse, JD ’81
A graduate of Suffolk University Law School, Peter served as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County. He clerked for Appeals Court Justice Charlotte Perretta, JD ’67, and was a trial lawyer in the Brockton office of the Committee for Public Counsel Services. He later fulfilled his lifelong ambition of practicing law with his father in their Boston office, developing a very successful private practice specializing in criminal defense. Practicing at the highest level of his profession, Peter Muse devoted his formidable trial skills to zealously defend the liberty of all his clients, no matter how complex the case. An ultimate professional, indefatigable in his pursuit of justice, unwavering in principle, and guided by a deep respect for the rule of law. His strength of character and moral clarity earned the respect of colleagues, adversaries, and judges alike.
