Make new friends, learn about a new culture and have some fun. By facilitating meaningful conversations and through shared experiences on and off campus, Suffolk’s Home Away From Home program fosters supportive relationships and cultural exchange between international and domestic students.

Home Away From Home is operated through Suffolk's International Student Services Office to connect students in our International communityAre you an international student interested in making new friends? Are you a student from the U.S. interested in learning about a new culture? Join the Home Away From Home program! The goal of the Home Away From Home (HAFH) program is to foster supportive relationships and cultural exchange between international and domestic students.

Home Away From Home matches international students with students from the U.S. to provide an opportunity for students to share their cultures and get to know people from around the world. This program provides international students with valuable information and the opportunity to meet and socialize with American students. Helpful Resources

International students are an integral part of the Suffolk Family. Suffolk provides on-going support for international students; both academically and socially to help with the transition to life in the U.S. If you're struggling with the adjustment, it's important to remember that you are not alone, and that helpful resources are available.

HAFH Program Benefits

Our international student participants will:

  • • Practice English-language communication skills
  • • Learn about U.S. and other diverse cultures around the world
  • • Learn about resources & things to do in the New England/Boston area
  • • Create a stronger sense of home and belonging at Suffolk
  • • Engage in cultural, social, and academic growth through peer support
  • • Make friends with a native-English speaker and other international students

Our domestic student participants will:

  • • Learn about other countries and diverse cultures
  • • Develop your intercultural communication skills
  • • Learn or improve a new language
  • • Create a stronger sense of community at Suffolk
  • • Engage in cultural, social, and academic growth through peer-to-peer mentorship
  • • Make friends with international students and other domestic students
