Undergraduate Scholarships & Grants

This federally funded program is available to undergraduate students with substantial demonstrated financial need and who have not yet earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. Award amounts vary based on the student’s EFC and enrollment status. For the 2022-23 academic year, the maximum Pell Grant is $6895 and for 2023-24 it will be $7395. Students who are enrolled less than half-time may be eligible for Federal Pell Grant funds. It is also possible for students to receive Federal Pell Grant funds in the summer if eligibility requirements are met.

Under the Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act an otherwise Pell-eligible student whose parent or guardian died as a result of active service in the line of duty as a Public Safety Officer may receive the maximum Pell Grant and increased amounts of other federal student aid if the student was less than 24 years old when the parent or guardian died, or was enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of the parent or guardian’s death.

In addition, an otherwise Pell-eligible student whose parent or guardian died as a result of U.S. military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001, will also receive the maximum Federal Pell Grant amount and may receive increased amounts of other federal student aid if the student was less than 24 years old when the parent/guardian died, or was enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of the parent/guardian’s death.

This federally funded program is available to full- and part-time undergraduate students with substantial demonstrated financial need. Awards are based on the availability of funds and a student’s EFC, with priority given to Pell Grant recipients. Currently, the maximum SEOG award is $4,000 per academic year.

To qualify for this grant, a student’s parent or guardian died as a result of U.S. military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001. The student must also have been less than 24 years old when the parent or guardian died, or was enrolled at an institution of higher education at the time of the parent or guardian’s death. Lastly, the student must not be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant due to EFC.

This program is available to full-time undergraduate students who are residents of Massachusetts for at least one year prior to receiving this scholarship. Dependent students are considered legal residents of the same state as their parent(s). Award amounts vary based on the student's EFC. For the 2022-2023 academic year, the maximum Mass Grant award is $2800. Students may not receive more than eight semesters of Mass Grant. Mass Grant requires full-time enrollment.

This grant is awarded to full-time undergraduate students who are residents of Massachusetts. Recipients are selected based on demonstrated financial need with priority given to Mass Grant recipients. Massachusetts Gilbert Grant awards range from $200 to $2,500 for the 2022 - 2023 academic year. Gilbert Matching Grant requires full-time enrollment.

This grant is available to students who are permanent legal residents of Massachusetts and ranges from $200 - $850 per academic year. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits but fewer than 12 credits per academic term to qualify.

The Massachusetts Public Service Grant Program was established in recognition of the hardship that a family experiences upon the loss of a parent and or spouse who is killed or missing in the line of public service duty in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Recipients must be a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts for at least one year prior to the start of the academic year. The maximum award amount is $2,500 per academic year.

This grant is available to undergraduate students who participated in the Early Intervention component of GEAR UP Massachusetts and have graduated from a Massachusetts public high school. Recipients must be a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts for at least one year prior to the start of the academic year. For 2022- 2023 the award amount is $600 fall/$600 spring, $1,200/year for eligible students.

The program provides grants of up to $6000 annually for foster children to help pay for an education beyond high school. The Foster Child Grant recipient must have signed an agreement with the Department of Children and Families for care and services beyond age 18. Recipients must be a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts for at least one year prior to the start of the academic year.

The Christian Herter Memorial Scholarship was established in 1972 by the Massachusetts State Legislature to recruit students in the 10th and 11th grades whose socio-economic backgrounds and environmental conditions may inhibit their ability to attain educational goals. The students that are selected for this program must have overcome major adversity in their lives. Obstacles may be mental, physical, geographic or societal. Scholarship awards vary and are based on educational cost. Eligible students who are in the 10th or 11th grades of high school must be nominated by a school or qualified community agency or organization. Nominated students must also complete and submit the current year application form.

Alumni Discount: This $1,000 discount is available to the legal dependents of Suffolk University graduates who enroll full-time in an undergraduate program. Discount is not available to Suffolk University employees who receive tuition remission. Please contact your aid counselor to complete required application.

Gleason Archer Scholarship: Named in honor of Suffolk’s founder, this program provides scholarship assistance to Massachusetts students with financial need and academic promise. The Archer Scholarship is awarded to qualified incoming students who submit the FAFSA.

Boston Public & Charter Schools Tuition Coverage: Boston Public School (BPS) and Boston Charter Schools (BCS) students with a family adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less will receive full tuition coverage for their undergraduate education at Suffolk. This offer applies to any incoming Fall 2026 BPS or BCS student who meets the financial criteria and enrolls as a first-year student. Students must file the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid to be considered for eligibility.

Dean’s Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to full-time entering freshmen and transfer students. Recipients are selected on the basis of merit. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for renewal. Awards can be renewed for up to 8 semesters. Students are permitted no more than two semesters of an approved leave of absence while enrolled without losing eligibility.

Family Discount Plan: This program offers an award of $500 per student to families with two undergraduate dependent students who are both enrolled full-time at Suffolk University. Requires a separate application.

First Generation College Scholarship: Suffolk University's first-generation scholarship awards eligible incoming first-year students $1,000 in addition to any other merit- or need-based aid received. It is both guaranteed and renewable.
Students who are the first in their families to attend college will be automatically granted the scholarship based on admission application information. No separate application is required.

Geraldine F. Lavin Memorial Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is awarded annually to a Suffolk University student enrolled in the Sawyer Business School whose life has been impacted by breast cancer. A separate application is required and can be submitted either by using the Facebook link provided or by downloading and completing the application form.

Nathan R. Miller Scholarship: This scholarship is available to graduates of a Boston Public or Boston Charter High School entering an undergraduate program. Up to 15 full-tuition scholarships are awarded annually based on demonstrated financial need and merit. Awards are renewable for up to 4 consecutive years (8 consecutive semesters) provided recipient maintains full-time enrollment and a minimum GPA of 2.8.
For Miller Scholars entering in Fall 2026: Scholars are eligible for an additional, renewable $5,000 housing grant each year the recipient lives in University-sponsored housing (up to four years).

Undergraduate Progression Scholarship: Students who meet all progression requirements after Fall 2022 and earn a 3.0 GPA during the Suffolk INTO undergraduate pathway program will receive a $10,000 annual scholarship upon enrollment in a Suffolk undergraduate degree program. The scholarship can be renewed for up to three years and requires the recipient remain in good academic standing while maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

Ram Scholarship: Scholarship funding awarded at the time of admission to students with potential to positively impact the Suffolk community. Awards are renewable annually for up to four years.

Suffolk Tuition Promise: This program provides scholarship funding for undergraduate students who earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6. To be eligible, applicants must have entered Suffolk University for the Fall 2025 semester or earlier, been enrolled for both the fall and spring of the prior academic year, and have no D, F or Incomplete grades. Full-time students receive a grant equal to the yearly tuition increase. Part-time students (minimum 6 credits) receive a grant equal to the yearly tuition increase for 6 credits. Note: this program was formerly known as the Grandfathered Tuition Program.

Suffolk University Black Alumni Network (SUBAN) Scholarship: The Suffolk University Black Alumni Network (SUBAN) Scholarship is funded by the generous donations of alumni and friends of the University with the goal of reducing the financial burden on talented Suffolk University students. The SUBAN Scholarship supports, each year, at least one student enrolled in each of the schools of the University (College of Arts & Sciences, Sawyer Business School, and Suffolk University Law School). Based on available funding and student eligibility, it is possible awards will be renewed for selected recipients in future years. A separate application is required.

Trustee Achievement Grant (TAG): This grant is awarded to current students on the basis of prior academic achievement. Students must enroll full-time. Awards can be renewed for up to 8 semesters.

Trustees Scholarship: The largest institutionally-funded program available at Suffolk University, this scholarship is awarded to full- or part-time undergraduate students. Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated financial need.

University Achievement Grant: This grant is awarded to incoming freshmen and transfer students on the basis of prior academic achievement. Students must enroll full-time. Awards can be renewed for up to 8 semesters. Students are permitted no more than two semesters of an approved leave of absence while enrolled without losing eligibility.

Vendome Firefighter’s Scholarship: This scholarship, established to provide assistance to a child or descendant of a Boston firefighter, is awarded to an entering freshman. Recipient is selected on the basis of merit. Award amount is one third of tuition costs. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required for renewal. Requires separate application.
