SUCCESS Case Invitational

48 students competed on Saturday, October 22, 2022. The SUCCESS Invitational allowed students to compete in three rounds of presentations. Each round after the intial gave students a new data point to explore. The teams were then whittled down to four semi-finalists and then finally finals where two groups competed head to head and had to answer questions from a panel of 11 executive judges.

After the first week of classes, students were given the option to attend a Fenway Park tour. The students even got to go in the dugouts!

Importance of Presentations

One of the important experiential education opportunities Business School students have is presenting to real clients, either on Zoom or (pictured here pre-pandemic) in person. Client presentations at the end of the semester are the culmination of experiential learning taught within the First Year core business courses of the Sawyer Business School. Students have the opportunity to provide a situation and financial analysis for real clients, and create recommendations curated to addressing the determined primary problem they're facing.

About the Presentations

Students are provided with a PowerPoint template of the necessary components to include in each case presentation of the semester. The content to be covered includes:

  1. A SWOT Analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the internal environment, and opportunities and threats of the external environment
  2. Assessment of the Income Statement
  3. Assessment of the Balance Sheet
  4. Analysis of the Primary Problem
  5. Three Alternatives to solve the primary problem
  6. Proposed Final Recommendation
  7. Implementation of the Final Recommendation with the impact on stakeholders and timeline
