2020 Updates to Entry Exam Policies

We understand that these unprecedented times have created many questions for you and hope that we can provide some answers especially when it comes to entrance requirements to Suffolk University. We are committed to work with all students in these unsure times.

We are not able to cover all scenarios, but are committed to reviewing additional individual concerns on a case-by-case basis. Our policy for enrollment is based upon successful completion of your senior year and that you meet the requirements that your school has deemed necessary for high school graduation.

If you will receive a high school diploma prior to the first day of Suffolk’s Fall semester, you may enroll for an on-time start at Suffolk University. Time will provide additional clarity and answers.

If you didn't find the information you were looking for, we encourage you to reach out to us with any additional questions. We hope this allows you to make some more informed decisions and place your deposit. We are here to help you and look forward to seeing you in the Fall!

International Baccalaureate (IB)

If your school will be issuing a high school diploma, we will not require the IB diploma. If your school’s diploma is tied to successfully obtaining the IB diploma, then we will need to wait for those results. Our understanding from the IBO is that IB grades will be awarded based on a combination of teacher evaluations and completed work. We will consider these results as final.

IGCSE/A level

While we believe that A-levels best prepare you for college-level work, at Suffolk, the IGCSE/GCSE is considered a terminal degree. If you are able to provide us with an official copy of your IGCSE results (either from your school or the Examination council), we will consider that to be your high school diploma. Suffolk requires at least 5 strong passes. Should you sit for A-levels (and wish to use this as proof of high school graduation in lieu of IGCSE/GCSE), we will want 3 A-Levels with a DDD combination at minimum.

International Leaving Exam

We have learned that many of these leaving exams have been pushed back to August. If you will receive the results prior to the first day of Suffolk’s Fall semester, you may enroll for an on-time start at Suffolk University. If you will receive the results within the first month of the Fall semester, we will allow for conditional acceptance and an on-time start. If the exam will be held after the first day of Fall semester, we will need to move your start date to our Spring entry term.

Advanced Credit

We know how hard you have worked to get to this point. Suffolk is still willing to award advanced credit for the results above as long as we receive official results from the examining body. Please see our website to learn more about the credit that you may be eligible for.
