Critical Illness Insurance
Standard Insurance provides critical illness insurance for you and/or your spouse when you first become eligible to enroll, during Open Enrollment, or if you have a qualifying event.
This benefit helps you cover out-of-pocket expenses associated with a serious illness. You will receive a lump sum benefit paid directly to you upon diagnosis of a covered illness regardless of your treatment costs or what’s covered by medical insurance. These expenses could include copays, deductibles, rent, mortgage payments, child care, pet care, travel expenses, and more.
Some of the covered conditions include cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, advanced multiple sclerosis, etc.
You may purchase coverage from $10,000 to $30,000 (increments of $10,000) for yourself, from $5,000 to $15,000 (increments of $5,000) for your spouse, and your dependent children through age 25 will be automatically covered at 25% of your coverage amount.
The cost of both your coverage and your spouse’s coverage will be calculated based on your age, the amount of insurance purchased, and whether or not you use tobacco products.
Please note: You can’t elect more coverage on your spouse than on you.
There is also a Health Maintenance Screening Benefits of $50.00 each year just for going to the doctor for a covered wellness exam (blood test, stress test, etc.) which is covered in full under the medical plan.
