Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment is the only time each year that you can make changes to your benefit enrollment elections or changes for the medical and dental plans. If you wish to continue participating the flexible spending account (medical and dependent care) you must make an election for 2020.

Open Enrollment will take place from November 4, 2019 through November 25, 2019. All changes you make to your benefits during Open Enrollment must be made in Workday by noon on November 25, and will take effect on January 1, 2020.

This is also a good time to think about your other benefit elections including commuter (transit and/or parking), supplemental life insurance, and 403(b) retirement elections as well as updating your beneficiaries. You will find more information in the 2020 Suffolk University Benefits Brochure.

Critical Illness Insurance

Available on January 1, 2020 through Standard Insurance Company.

This benefit helps you cover out-of-pocket expenses associated with a serious illness. You will receive a lump sum benefit paid directly to you upon diagnosis of a covered illness regardless of your treatment costs or what’s covered by medical insurance. These expenses could include copays, deductibles, loss of income, child care, travel expenses, and more.

You may purchase coverage from $10,000 to $30,000 for yourself, from $5,000 to $15,000 for your spouse, and your dependent children through age 25 will be automatically covered at 25% your coverage amount. Your cost will be calculated based on age, the amount of insurance you purchase, and whether or not you use tobacco products.

Please note: you can’t elect more coverage on your spouse than you.
