Required Compliance Training
Here at Suffolk University, we believe in the importance of creating a safe and healthy environment for all of our employees. To this end, we provide trainings that will help us all be informed on topics vital to this mission. Completion of your courses is required for all employees of Suffolk. If you have difficulty logging in, please contact the Human Resources Office.
The trainings are highly interactive and engaging; based in research around the best practices for communicating and maintaining healthy relationships with your colleagues and students. As you complete your training, we invite you to reach out to the many referenced resources in order to join the larger discussion of these topics on our campus including the Suffolk policies.

Preventing Harassment and Discrimination (60-150 min)
This package includes tracks for supervisors and non-supervisors, and optional Title IX and Clery Act training. Title IX, Clery Act, and harassment prevention training on promoting and building a safe, positive and productive workplaces through the power of bystanders; developing awareness and recognizing discrimination; inclusivity and equity; the harmful impact of discrimination on the individual and the workplace; leading by example to create a workplace resistant to discrimination, tools to respond to problematic behavior; identifying discriminatory conduct, including retaliation and in the context of hiring, etc. (supervisors).
Diversity: Inclusion in the Modern Workplace (60 min)
This course explores the benefits of diversity in the workplace and provides practical strategies for workplace inclusion, providing a welcoming environment, and valuable opportunities for all. This course uses the unique experiences of real people to explore key concepts such as identity, power, privilege, and communication. By appreciating our shared experiences of difference, our shared expectations of respect, and our shared need to belong, employees are encouraged to identify how they can create more inclusive and accepting workplaces.
Managing Bias (20 min)
The Managing Implicit Bias course is designed to increase awareness of implicit bias and reduce its impact to create a foundation for an inclusive workplace culture.
FERPA Basics (30 min)
Overview of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, commonly referred to as FERPA or the Buckley Amendment, is a federal law designed to protect the privacy of a student’s educational record. FERPA applies to all educational agencies or institutions that receive federal funding for any program administered by the Department of Education.

Bridges: Building a Supportive Community/Title IX Sexual Assault and Clery Act Training (45 min)
Introduces and reviews the concepts of bystander intervention, building a supportive community; includes scenarios to practice responding to information about sexual misconduct, reporting, and retaliation, intimate partner violence; confidentiality, students at high risk; self-care; understanding a survivor’s reactions and how to talk to survivors.
New Employee Orientation
Our New Staff Employee Orientation is a year-long experience beginning with the first day welcome followed by a half-day orientation within the first month of employment. Each month following and within the their first year new staff employees will be invited to a one hour meeting with a leader from areas across the community such as diversity, access & inclusion, information technology, campus police and security as well as others to learn more about each and how each contributes to the University.
New Staff Employee Orientation is designed to positively impact how our new employees acclimate to our community and accelerate their learning to become productive members of our teams more quickly.
Participation is by invitation only.
New Manager Orientation
Suffolk’s New Manager Orientation is held six times per year for new employees in a manager role or current employees who have recently been appointed to a management role.
The New Manager Orientation is a program is a two half day sessions including an e-learning path covering information to set you up for success in your new role. We cover HR basics including performance management, policies and procedures, recruitment and legal requirements.

Technology Training Center
ITS offers technology learning opportunities for Suffolk University faculty and staff to aid in performing key job tasks. Applications include Microsoft Office, Qualtrics Survey Software, and more.
