American Studies Minor

What values and characteristics shape the American identity? With this minor, you'll examine U.S. culture—past and present—in Boston, a city that's famous for its role in America's history.

The American studies minor at Suffolk University draws on insights and methods from the arts, history, literature, and the social sciences. You’ll study with faculty from each of these disciplines as you explore both historical and contemporary U.S. identities, cultures, and societies.

After taking an introductory course, Defining America and Americans, you'll choose a focus area. Focus areas range from eras, themes, regions, or populations to problems in American culture. Your minor advisor will help you choose one that suits your unique interests.
