COVID-19 Visitor Policy
Effective October 5, 2020
Suffolk University is a community that places great emphasis on welcoming and engaging visitors and guests. In response to COVID-19, however, we have had to make adjustments to protect the health and safety of our community, our visitors, and the broader public. This temporary visitor policy is intended to allow for limited visitors in connection with certain University functions, while emphasizing public safety during the current pandemic by restricting visitors in most contexts, consistent with public health guidance. We look forward to the time when this temporary policy will no longer be needed.
Suffolk University discourages in-person visitors, guests, and alumni in any building on campus during the COVID-19 crisis, except as permitted under this policy. Individual students may not request to welcome in-person visitors, guests, and alumni. No guests are allowed in residence halls. Prospective students, student-athletes, and other official visitors may only visit campus through the process set out in this policy.
Process for Requests
Prior to making a request for in-person visitors, guests, and alumni during the COVID-19 crisis, faculty and staff should consider the academic or administrative benefit to the University, as well as the inherent risk of in-person interaction at this time.
Except for the situations described below, all decisions on whether or not to allow a guest onto campus shall be reviewed by the Integrated Response Team. To make a guest request, email the Integrated Response Team two business days in advance of the visit with the reason for the visit and rationale as to why this cannot be achieved electronically. Individual students may not make requests to welcome in-person visitors, guests, and alumni.
- Admission Visitors: For the College of Arts & Sciences and Sawyer Business School, the Office of Admission will make determinations on when to allow limited visits to accommodate interviews, meetings with financial services, and tours for prospective students and family members. Guests coming from low-risk states will be required to complete a health attestation form upon arrival. Guests who live in a restricted state, or are out of the country, will also have to complete a self-attestation form but will need to do so prior to visiting campus. We encourage you to review the Massachusetts travel order to help you identify if your state is currently identified as high or low risk. Please feel free to email our Welcome Center to discuss options for visiting campus that meet state regulations. We also encourage any visitors to explore the various virtual visit options available including our information sessions and guided tours. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to make appointments in advance with the Office of Admission. The Office of Admission will use its best efforts to accommodate drop-in visits, subject to staff availability and public health considerations. - Prospective student-athletes: Visits are available to prospective student athletes. You will need to follow the guidance of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If you come from a restricted state, or are out of the country, will also have to complete a self-attestation form prior to visiting campus. Prospective student-athletes are expected to contact the coaching staff for their desired sport by filling out a recruiting questionnaire on the Suffolk University Athletic Department Recruitment Webpage.
- Office of Advancement Visitors: The Office of Advancement will make determinations on when to allow appointment-only visits by individuals coming from low-risk states as defined by the guidance of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The Suffolk University Police Department must be informed of the names of all approved visitors by the Integrated Response Team, Office of Admissions, Department of Athletics, or Office of Advancement, so that the visitors are allowed into the building upon arrival. All guests will be limited to parties of no more than three, and will be expected to follow all registration steps, including reviewing the Suffolk Power of One Pledge and what will be expected of them while visiting campus. Upon arrival, guests will check in with security and receive a guest sticker for ease of access in other buildings during their visit. Guests will be asked to fill out a self-attestation form, including a notice and acknowledgement form, and will be denied entrance if they declare symptoms. Guests must follow the Suffolk face-covering policy. Refusal to comply with the Suffolk policies and procedures will result in their being denied entry or removed from campus.
This Policy may be revised at the discretion of the Provost or Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration at any time in response to changing conditions.
