CLAS Program Request Form

CLAS Workshop Scholars are available to visit or support your classrooms, student group meetings, and other programs. To request an academic skills workshop, please complete the form.

Please Note:

  • Academic skills workshops last for 50 minutes to an hour. When you submit your request, please note whether our presenters will have the entire class period or should reserve time for announcements, etc.
  • Academic skills workshops are facilitated by Ballotti Scholars and CLAS graduate fellows trained in workshop facilitation. Presenters come from a variety of majors/programs and are at different points in their academic journeys (sophomores through graduate students). We are not able to guarantee that presenters will have familiarity with your discipline, but they will be able to engage your students in a hands-on workshop!
  • Scheduling:
    • Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis
    • If there is not availability for your requested day or time we will work with you to find an alternate time
    • Please provide at least 2 weeks’ notice to ensure that we will be able to fulfill your request
    • Once submitted a staff member will follow-up with you regarding your request

Academic Skills Workshops

CLAS academic skills workshops are designed to be relevant across the disciplines and therefore have standardized content. While we are able to provide minor tailoring/customization, we are not able to accommodate large-scale changes.


There are 168 hours in each week. With classes, activities, studying, and free time, it can be hard to juggle the many responsibilities that come along with college life. Thankfully, applying a few effective time management and organization strategies can help you succeed! This workshop will help you discover where the hours in your week typically go, identify what priorities exist in your life, and create S.M.A.R.T. goals that maximize your productivity.


College can be a very stressful time, whether that's due to academic pressure, personal challenges or other external factors. Discuss and share your favorite self-care strategies. Figure out what your stress triggers are and what you can do when you are feeling overwhelmed. Learn and try out different stress management exercises and find the ones that work for you!


Adjusting to expectations in the college classroom can feel daunting, but this workshop will help you build confidence! Participants will learn how to write clear emails to professors and explore strategies for joining class discussions, even when speaking up feels challenging. Come build your communication skills and take charge of your academic experience!


Have you ever found yourself copying down pages of notes from your textbook, only to be overwhelmed when it comes time to review for that next exam? This workshop offers a series of effective strategies for reading academic textbooks, as well as techniques for organizing and recording useful notes. We'll also show you how to use those notes to study efficiently and thoroughly so you can face exams with confidence.


Do you ever read class assignments and feel like the words aren’t really sinking in? You’re not alone—and this workshop is here to help. We’ll learn practical strategies for understanding academic texts, including how to identify a reading’s argument, purpose, and key ideas. You’ll get hands-on practice so you can confidently discuss what you’ve read in class.


Don’t stress! The secret to being successful on an exam is knowing how and when to prepare. By attending this workshop, you will learn effective time management and study skills including what to do before, during and after an exam, strategies for answering multiple types of exam questions, and how to manage pre-exam stress and test anxiety.


Teamwork is common in university classrooms, and working with a diverse group of your peers presents opportunities to deepen your learning and build community. At the same time, working with others can be challenging and even frustrating! In this workshop, we’ll learn strategies for approaching group work, communicating effectively, and managing conflict—and put them to practice in hands-on group activities.

In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to create visually-appealing, easy-to-read slides and learn strategies for delivering presentations that are sure to leave a lasting impression on their audience.
