Program Evaluation & Grading of Student Performance

A student’s grade in each course is based on his or her performance on the graded assignments, including class participation. For example, the grading could be:

  • 20% for class participation (i.e., making comments, asking and responding to questions, participating in group conversations, leading class conversations, and making short presentations)
  • 40% for a team-based project on a real-world management issue
  • 10% for reflective learning
  • 30% for mid-term and/or final exams.

The Instructor’s overall assessment of student performance, especially the level of student learning – i.e., the development of real insight about the course material – and progress during the course are factored into the final grade.

The grades will be assigned as follows:

Numerical Letter Meaning Grade Point Score
93-100 A Exceptional graduate work 4.0
90-92 A- Excellent work 3.7
87-89 B+ Above average work 3.3
83-86 B Average or acceptable work 3.0
80-82 B- Less than acceptable work 2.7
77-79 C+ Less than acceptable work 2.3
73-76 C Less than acceptable work 2.0
72 or less F Failing 0.0

The “A” grade is reserved for exceptional work in both the content and writing of a paper, and the content and delivery of a presentation.

Effective and efficient presentation of information is essential for virtually every healthcare professional. Accordingly, top quality writing and oral presentations are essential in the MHA courses, and all writing and presentations will be evaluated and grades determined based on performance on the selected MHA competencies and on other requirements for the course, such as for critical thinking, creativity, insight, effectiveness in applying the course material, attribution of information to the appropriate sources (with footnotes and a bibliography), correct spelling, grammar and punctuation in written papers, and enthusiasm.
