InterLibrary Loan (ILL) is a service offered to faculty for research materials Sawyer Library does not own, but may be borrowed from other libraries.

For questions, please email [email protected] or call (617) 573 - 8427.

Requesting Materials

Faculty can request articles, book chapters, and books by logging into ILLiad using their Suffolk username and password. Request forms can be found under the New Requests tab.

An email will be sent when a request is available.

Articles and book chapters will appear in the main menu of ILLiad. Click the View button beside the request to access the document. Please note that requests are only available in ILLiad for up to six views or 30 days, but a pdf can be downloaded.

Books can be picked up and dropped off at the Sawyer Library circulation desk. The due date is determined by the library who loaned the book and will appear on the book strap and in ILLiad.

Please return ILL books as close to the due date as possible. When materials are returned late or lost, it jeopardizes the borrowing privileges of the Sawyer Library.

First time logging into ILLiad

Please go to the Profile tab and choose Update Profile to verify that your contact information is correct and click Submit Form.

Renewals

To request a renewal, please log into ILLiad and under the View button beside the request, choose Renew. Renewals are also determined by the lending library. If a renewal is denied, please email about requesting the title again.

Document Delivery

Document Delivery is a service Sawyer Library extends to faculty and administrators who would like articles from our print journal collection to be scanned and sent to their ILLiad accounts. Please submit Document Delivery requests the same way ILL articles are requested.

Turnaround Time

Article and book chapters are delivered electronically and typically take one to two business days. Books are requested from libraries geographically close to Suffolk. However, please allow up to two weeks for the book to arrive. Occasionally, requests do come back as unfilled.

How much of a book can be scanned?

Faculty can request up to 10% of a monograph to be scanned via ILL. This is about one or two chapters.

Requesting ebooks

It is up to the publisher if an ebook can be loaned via ILL. The vast majority of lending libraries are unable to lend more than one chapter of an ebook.
