Transfer students are required to submit
- Transfer Common Application (online) or (pdf) or the Suffolk University Online Application and application fee.
- Official college transcript(s) from all college or universities attended.
- Essay/Personal Statement
For some students, the following also apply
- Official final high school transcript
- SAT scores - Students can self-report SAT or ACT results during the application process. (For those applicants who have graduated high schools three or more years ago or have more than 24 credits, the SAT or ACT requirement is waived.)
- Statement of activity or Resume (required only for those applicants who have a significant gap in their educational history)
- Official TOEFL or IELTS results (for non-native English speakers)
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Students are automatically considered for merit scholarship funding when applying to Suffolk.
Our Student Financial Services office can help you and your family understand options for paying for school with FAFSA (“Free Application for Federal Student Aid”), merit- or need-based aid, and numerous scholarship and grant opportunities.
Admitted transfer students will receive an official credit evaluation and a program evaluation with their letter of acceptance. The evaluation includes a list of transferable courses with the Suffolk University equivalent course, and indicates how these courses apply to their given major. Courses must be taken at a regionally accredited institution or, in the case of an international institution, recognized by the Ministry of Education of that particular country. International students may be required to have their credentials evaluated by a professional service.
We consider earned grades of C- or higher for transfer credit. All transfer students must complete a minimum of 45 semester hours at Suffolk, including the final 30. Students admitted to the Sawyer Business School are required to complete at least 50 percent of business credit hours at Suffolk University.
Art & Design
Students transferring to the BFA programs in Art & Design must submit a portfolio
The portfolio may be submitted using one of the following options:
Transfer candidates who have completed studio courses at a regionally accredited college or university should be prepared to present a portfolio (3-5 pieces per course) representing work from each course for which they are seeking transfer credit. This portfolio (minimum of 15 pieces) will serve as the mechanism to assess both admissibility to the BFA and to evaluate studio coursework for which you are seeking transfer credit.

The priority financial aid deadlines for transfer students are June 1 (fall entry) or December 1 (spring entry); funding for students submitting an application after these dates will be based on availability.
Transfer Credits for Veterans
If you have completed military courses, have an official Joint Service Transcript (JST) sent to Suffolk University for review by our Office of Undergraduate Admission.
Transfer credit will be considered for courses that have American Council on Education (ACE) credit recommendations and will apply to the curriculum at Suffolk. If you are approved for credit, a transfer credit evaluation will be sent to you.
Yellow Ribbon Program
Suffolk is proud to offer qualified veterans tuition assistance of up to $25,000 per academic year through the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. Suffolk’s financial commitment—combined with government allowances—enables eligible veterans to cover the full cost of tuition, fees, and books in any University degree program.
