Biography
Kate Ahern, J.D., LLM, is a law professor, former AmLaw200 attorney, and transactional lawyer. At the beginning of her career, Kate practiced law as a corporate and tax attorney at a large regional firm working with businesses, individuals, governmental entities, and tax-exempt organizations across a variety of issues and industries. As a Clinical Law Professor and law school Clinic Director, Kate then led an entrepreneurial business start-up clinic serving nonprofit and small business clients, allowing law students to tackle business law issues, as well as learn effective, practical lawyering skills while working directly with clinic clients. Kate has over sixteen years of experience teaching business law and introductory legal concepts to lawyers and non-lawyers at several levels of academia, as well as mentoring and guiding law students and practicing lawyers. Kate is also active in law practice issues nationally as a committee member of the American Bar Association Law Practice Division, is a past president of the RI Women’s Bar Association, past board member of the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations, and a recipient of honors such as the RIWBA Ada Sawyer Award, Providence Business News 40 Under Forty, and Super Lawyers Rising Star. Outside of her time in academia, Kate guides lawyers and law firms on time and priorities management through her writing, speaking, resources, and one-on-one work.
