Biography
Charles St. Amand joined Suffolk University's Communication & Journalism Department as its Practitioner in Residence in July 2018 after working 31 years in community journalism, most recently as editor of the Sentinel & Enterprise in Fitchburg, Mass. A 1986 graduate of Suffolk University, he began teaching journalism part time at Suffolk, his alma mater, in 2000. He is vice president of the New England Society of News Editors' Board of Governors.

Teaching Philosophy
I teach my experience gained through 31 years in daily journalism and lessons learned as a Suffolk journalism major. Experiential learning is key in all of my journalism classes — from Journalism I to Advanced Reporting and Feature Writing. Students are sent out across the campus and Greater Boston to sharpen their reporting and news writing skills while using multiple digital tools to enhance their storytelling.
