Whether you're studying History, Art History, or Spanish at Suffolk University, you'll enjoy hands-on learning in your field before you graduate. Suffolk's Career Development Center will work with you to help find internships and job placements.

History

Internships

Academic and non-credit internships are available. Both the History, Language & Global Culture Department and the Career Development Center can help you find an internship. Recent placements include the Bostonian Society, Boston National Historical Park, Massachusetts State Archives, Paul Revere House, Office of the Governor of Massachusetts, and the National Geographic Society, to name a few.

Careers

History

History students at Suffolk University develop skills in logical reasoning, research, marshaling evidence, argumentation, and written and oral expression. Learning opportunities range from project development and management to internships at Boston's historic sites, in government and business, and in community nonprofits. 

Some of our recent graduates are working at the Massachusetts State House, Freedom Trail Foundation, Boston Children’s Museum, and Boston City Hall. Others have earned advanced degrees in business, law, history, and other fields. 

Art History

Career paths for art history majors range from teaching to working in arts administration, museums, or nonprofits. Our Art History program helps students succeed in a rapidly evolving employment landscape and an increasingly global community by offering them ways to gain hands-on experience in the field of art and museums. Recent internships include:

  • Fogg Museum, Harvard University
  • Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA
  • Museum of Fine Arts Boston
  • Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA

After graduation, our students go on to work in auction houses, galleries, museums, and arts-related nonprofits. You'll find them at the Institute of Contemporary Art, the New England Museum Association, and the Davis Museum at Wellesley College. Recent alumni have pursued graduate degrees at Boston University, Sotheby’s in London, the University of Massachusetts, and McGill University in Montreal.

Spanish

Graduates who speak multiple languages are in high demand in a variety of fields. Suffolk alumni often leverage their lingual and cultural fluency with careers in diplomacy, banking/finance, tourism management, nonprofits and nongovernmental organizations, the Peace Corps, and as interpreters and translators.
