Melanie joined the PCD team in August 2021. Melanie began her legal career as an associate at Kotin, Crabtree & Strong, LLP in Boston and became a partner of the firm in 2019. Throughout her time in private practice, she practiced special education and disability law. In this role, Melanie worked with individuals and their families to navigate disputes with school districts, state agencies, and colleges and universities. She presented widely to professionals, parents, and students regarding special education law; contributed case commentaries to the Massachusetts Special Education Reporter; and was selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers from 2015-2021. Melanie also hired and supervised the firm's law student interns year-round and provided guest advising to students at area law schools.

She is a 2011 graduate of Boston College Law School and also holds an MS in Teaching from Pace University and a BA in History from Occidental College. Both before and during law school, Melanie worked at two legal services agencies devoted to child protective issues and education law. She also spent three years teaching in New York City with Teach for America. During law school, Melanie was the editor in chief of a law journal. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. She serves on the boards of directors for two nonprofit organizations.
