Politics, Civil Rights, COVID-19, and Employee Expression in the Workplace

Dave Yamada

Friday, February 26, 2021: 12:00pm – 1:00pm EST

The confluence of political divisions, civil rights issues, and the COVID-19 pandemic has created dilemmas for many employers over employee freedom of expression. What if an employee participated in the January 6 attack on Congress, or wishes to wear a Black Lives Matter button on the job, or opposes COVID-19 vaccines? These are among the real scenarios facing employers. This talk will examine relevant workplace legal protections and liability issues pertinent to the private sector workplace, including free speech, discrimination, harassment, and bullying, as well as attendant challenges for managing a diverse workforce in these trying times.

Speaker: David Yamada, Professor of Law and Director, New Workplace Institute, Suffolk University Law School.
