Dwight Golann is a Research and Emeritus Professor of Law at Suffolk University. As a full-time faculty member for 35 years, he created courses in negotiation, mediation advocacy and other subjects and founded Suffolk’s nationally-ranked program in dispute resolution.
Professor Golann has been deeply involved in creating experiential courses designed to teach lawyering skills and continues to teach negotiation at Suffolk. He is also a visiting professor at the University of California Law-San Francisco and the National Law School of India University in Bangalore. Golann has been a leader in applying artificial intelligence to dispute resolution and led the creation of Suffolk’s AI Negotiation website, www.sites.suffolk.edu/ai-negotiation. He has taught dispute resolution skills for the American Bar Association, Federal Judicial Center, European Union, and ADR centers on five continents.
Before joining the Suffolk Law faculty Golann practiced law in Boston and served as Chief of Consumer Protection for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. While on the faculty, he served as Chief of the Attorney General’s Government Bureau and Trial Division, where he directed the defense of all litigation filed against the state and tried and argued cases at every level of the American court system.
Professor Golann is the author of leading books on mediation published by the American Bar Association, three law school textbooks and numerous articles. He is the recipient of Institute for Conflict Prevention (CPR)’s National Book and Article Awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American College of Civil Mediators, Honorary Membership in the International Academy of Mediators, and the American Bar Association Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Dispute Resolution.
