Biography
Kate Gannon is a Practitioner in Residence and the Director of the Health Law Clinic at Suffolk University Law School. In this role, Kate provides support and supervision to the student attorneys enrolled in the Clinic as they take on advocacy projects and represent clients for the first time. Kate supports student attorneys who are representing clients in their appeal of public benefit and insurance coverage denials and in their pursuit of services for their disabled loved ones. Kate helps students use their direct representation to inform clinic advocacy projects such as researching and drafting written testimony on proposed healthcare regulations. In addition, Kate also serves on the Disabled Persons Protection Commission’s Sexual Assault Response Team, as well as Vinfen’s Human Rights Committee.
Before joining the faculty at Suffolk Law School, Kate was a Law and Policy Consultant at Legal Key, where she provided technical assistance to health and social care providers such as the Children’s Trust Massachusetts and Mass General Brigham, while also guest lecturing at Boston Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital. Earlier in her career, Kate managed Community Legal Aid’s medical-legal partnership with UMass Memorial Healthcare, where she was a lecturer at UMass Chan Medical School in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. Prior to that, Kate managed the medical-legal partnership with Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida and the West Volusia Housing Authority. In law school, Kate enjoyed many experiential learning placements, including the Youth Advocacy Division, Citizens for Juvenile Justice, the EdLaw Project, and the Rhode Island Medical-Legal Partnership.
