About Martin Konan
My name is Martin K. Konan. I am originally from Cote d'Ivoire (the French name for the Ivory Coast), a small country in West Africa (along the Guinea Gulf). When I was eight years old, my parents sent me to France for my education. I graduated from high school after passing the French Baccalaureate with a concentration in Sciences (Mathematics and Physics) in 1985. In 1986, I came to the United States. I obtained my B.Sc. in Mathematics and Economics from Boston College in 1990. In April of 1990, I was awarded as a member of Pi Mu Epsilon (National Honorary Mathematics Society). I obtained my M.A in Economics from Tufts University in 1992. I eventually got my PhD from Boston College in Economics in 2000. The field of my research was measuring and comparing disguised unemployment in the former command economies during their transition to market economies. During my years as a PhD candidate at Boston College, I acted as a teaching assistant and teaching fellow for several undergraduate Economics courses. In 1995, I was the recipient of a teaching excellence award from the Department of Economics. I also taught an Economics course for MBA program during my last year in the PhD program. After completion of my PhD in 1999, I became a faculty member of the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management at Boston College. I taught several courses: Basic Finance (Introductory Corporate Finance), Economics for MBA, Financial Markets & Instruments (Money & Capital Market), and Statistics for MBA. In 2003, I taught other courses at Stonehill College: Principles of Microeconomics, Economics of Everyday Life, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Forecasting, and Mathematical Economics. My experience as a faculty at the Carroll School and teaching at Stonehill College were in many ways enriching and rewarding, giving me a chance to broaden my teaching and research horizons. In September 2003, I joined the Sawyer School of Management (Finance Department) at Suffolk University, Boston, Massachusetts, where I have continued to teach similar courses. My research interests are in the fields of Corporate Finance, International Finance, and Investments.Employment History
