Biography

Professor Steven Ferrey teaches at Suffolk University Law School, and is particularly focused on energy, land-use, climate, and environmental law. He has testified as an expert before 7 different committees of the U.S. Congress and served on three Presidentially-appointed national advisory committees. Professor Ferrey has been a Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, a Visiting Professor at Boston University Law School, and in 2015 he was named Distinguished Energy Scholar by Vermont Law School. Prior to teaching, he served as Senior Counsel at the National Consumer Law Center, the Environmental Defense Fund, and has advised the United Nations and international organizations. Professor Ferrey has spoken at conferences across the U.S., Asia, Europe, and Africa. In addition to over 150 law review articles and numerous chapters in edited books, Professor Ferrey has authored 8 books, including Powering the Future: A Lawyer’s Guide to Clean Energy (ABA 2024); The Law of Independent Power, (Thomson Reuters/Westlaw) 66th edition 2026; Environmental Law, Energy, Climate & Land Use – Examples & Explanations (Aspen) 10th edition 2025; , 2010.
