Transcripts

Here's all the information you need to order your Suffolk University transcript.

Unofficial Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts are available 24/7 to actively enrolled students from Workday. Access the Generate Unofficial Transcript under the Suggested Links section of your Academics Hub. If you are having trouble logging in, contact the University Service Desk at 617-557-2000.

Alumni who do not have access to Workday should submit a request for an official transcript.

Official Transcripts

An official transcript is an academic record maintained by the Office of the Registrar reflecting a student’s academic history at Suffolk University. Official transcripts (whether paper or a certified electronic copy) cost $14 each and are issued by Parchment (additional shipping rates applied for mailed transcripts). They bear the seal of the University and signature of the University Registrar. An official transcript includes courses, grades, dates of enrollment, GPA, programs of study (ie: major(s) / minor(s) / concentration(s)), academic level, credentials earned (and honors earned if applicable). Transcripts also include any course work transferred from other institutions whose credits are applied to the Suffolk program.

All current Suffolk University students and alumni must request official transcripts online through Parchment. Requestors may choose to have their transcripts delivered electronically or mailed. Transcripts are printed when the order is submitted. For current students who want their transcript to reflect their end of semester grades, please be sure to verify that your final grades have been recorded in Workday first.

Please note: for current students in the College of Arts & Sciences or the Sawyer Business School, transcripts do not reflect “in progress” classes. If this is your first semester at Suffolk University, your transcript will be blank until final grades are recorded. Do not request/pay for a transcript if you are in your first semester and have not yet received final grades.

In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Suffolk University issues official transcripts only with authorization from the student.

The New England School of Art & Design Transcripts

The New England School of Art & Design (NESAD) was an independent, non-profit, degree-granting institution of higher education from 1923 until September of 1996, when it merged with Suffolk University. Suffolk University houses official transcripts received from NESAD, including degrees granted during the period NESAD operated independently, and will respond to NESAD transcript requests regardless of when NESAD courses were taken or when a degree was issued (where applicable). The University is not aware of any information suggesting the transcript records which the University received from the predecessor institution are not accurate. However, Suffolk University cannot independently verify the accuracy or completeness of these records.

Transcript FAQs

  1. When will I receive my transcript after I place an order with Parchment?
The timing of the receipt of your transcript depends on which delivery option you choose:
    1. If you place an order for a transcript to be delivered digitally, you can expect to receive the PDF file of your transcript within 1-2 business days. Current students can expect to receive the PDF file of their transcript on the day that they order it.
    2. If you place an order for a physical copy of your transcript to be mailed to an address, it will likely take several business days to arrive. If you place an order for a physical transcript and would like to track its delivery status, please refer to your order confirmation email. You can log into your Parchment dashboard to view the status of your transcript order.
  2. Why is my transcript order on hold?
Your order may be on hold for one of the following reasons:
    1. If you graduated from Suffolk University before 2018 Suffolk has changed student information systems and the Registrar’s office needs to manually generate your transcript. There is no hold for you to resolve; this is an internal indicator to flag the Registrar’s office to manually process your transcript. You will see this message: “Records Research: Your transcript request has been delayed because we weren't able to match your account information with a unique student record in our system. If you were a student prior to 2018, this is because Suffolk University changed student information systems. No action is needed; this is an internal indicator so that the Registrar’s office can manually process your transcript. If you have attended since 2018, this could be due to a name change, incorrect date of birth entered or ID typo. The Registrar’s office will review and contact you if further information is required.” No action is needed on your end.
    2. Parchment could not find a student record at Suffolk that matched your biographical information. This could be due to a name change, incorrect date of birth entered, or even a typo when the order was placed. If your transcript order is on hold for any of these reasons, you will see this message: “Records Research: Your transcript request has been delayed because we weren't able to match your account information with a unique student record in our system. If you were a student prior to 2018, this is because Suffolk University changed student information systems. No action is needed; this is an internal indicator so that the Registrar’s office can manually process your transcript. If you have attended since 2018, this could be due to a name change, incorrect date of birth entered or ID typo. The Registrar’s office will review and contact you if further information is required.” In this case, the University Registrar’s Office will contact you via email to verify your information and will process the order manually after all required information is gathered or corrected.
    3. You have a financial hold on your student account. The University Registrar's Office does not issue official transcripts for students with outstanding financial obligations to the University. If this is the case, you will see this message in Parchment: “A Student Accounts hold placed on your account is preventing us from releasing your diploma. Please contact [email protected] or 617-573-8488 to resolve the hold.” Please follow these instructions to resolve your hold and receive your transcript.
  3. To whom should I send my transcript?
    1. This depends on the purpose of your transcript request. If you are applying to or transferring to another school, you can list the Admissions Office email address of the school as the recipient of the transcript. If you are applying for a job, you can list the company’s email address as the recipient of the transcript. If you want a personal copy of your transcript, you can list your own email address. Official transcripts should be delivered directly to the intended recipient.
  4. How much does it cost to order an official transcript from Suffolk?
    1. It costs $14 to order either a digital or a physical/hard copy of an official transcript. Additional shipping rates are applied for mailing printed copies based on the current USPS and/or FedEx rates depending on the delivery method selected.
    2. The cost of a physical/hard copy of a transcript that is being mailed to an international address can vary depending on the destination country.
  5. What do I need to order an official transcript?
    1. Create a Parchment account (or select ‘Add Another School’ and select Suffolk University if you already have a Parchment account).
    2. You will need to enter:
      1. Your first year of attendance
      2. Year you graduated/left (or expected graduation date)
      3. Name while attending
      4. Last 4 of your SSN and your Student ID (if current student) – used to verify your information in our student information system. If you do not have an SSN, there is a link next to the field that says, “I do not have an SSN”, and you can check the box to bypass.
  6. Who should I contact with questions about my transcript order?
    1. If you are inquiring about billing or the delivery status of your order, please contact Parchment directly. You can log into your Parchment dashboard to view the status of your transcript order. Refer to your order confirmation email.
    2. If you have any questions about the information reflected in your transcript, your student record, or apostille request, you can contact the Suffolk University Registrar’s Office at [email protected].
  7. What is a Transcript with Apostille?
    1. Some countries require an Apostille on the transcript. An Apostille is a certification issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that verifies the authenticity of a public document being presented to a foreign country that is a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1961. Students who wish to study or work outside of the United States may be required to have their educational credentials validated through the Apostille process.
    2. Students should select the option to request a ‘Transcript with Apostille’ and select as the destination ‘I’m sending this order to myself’. Selecting this option signifies that you are working directly with a mobile notary who will locally pick up the transcript.
    3. Suffolk University does not have a designated notary public on campus, and it is the responsibility of the individual requesting this document to contact a mobile Massachusetts notary public in advance.
    4. Notary public services are a separate fee from the amount paid for the transcript in Parchment and can vary depending on the notary public.
    5. The transcript will first need to be notarized by a notary public licensed in Massachusetts and should then be brought or sent to the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the apostille certificate. You can find more details on this process here: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/commissions/apostilles.htm
    6. Once you have found and contacted a notary public to certify the authentication of your transcript, please have them reach out to [email protected] to schedule an appointment to notarize and pick up the transcript from the Suffolk University Registrar’s Office. The timing of when your transcript will be ready depends on the availability of your chosen notary public and the Suffolk University Registrar. Depending on the notary selected, the notary may also provide the service to take the notarized transcript to the State House for the Apostille.
    7. If you selected the option for ‘Transcript with Apostille’ in error, please contact the Suffolk University Registrar’s Office at [email protected] so that your Parchment order can be cancelled. You will then need to place a new order for a regular official transcript.
