Suffolk University Students

Eligibility Requirements:

  • CLEP exams must be taken prior to your final 30 credits. Senior-status students are not eligible for CLEP credit unless approved through a Senior Petition Form. For assistance, contact the Undergraduate Academic Advising Center at 617-573-8034 or [email protected].
  • CLEP credits do not apply toward major requirements.
  • All credit decisions are determined by the Registrar's Office.

Credit Limits:

  • Up to 32 semester hours of CLEP credit may be awarded:
    • 16 credits max from General Exams
    • 16 credits max from Subject Exams

Score Requirement:

  • Minimum score: 50th percentile or higher (typically a scaled score of 50) is required for credit.

Lab Science Note:

The Biology and Chemistry CLEP exams each grant 6 credits, covering the equivalent of two semesters of a non-lab science.

If your academic program requires a 4-credit lab science, the associated lab course must be taken separately to meet the lab component.

Important: Before registering for the lab course, students must:

  • Pass the CLEP exam in Biology or Chemistry.
  • Consult with the Biology or Chemistry Department to receive special permission.

The Registrar’s Office will not permit enrollment in the lab course alone without prior departmental approval.
