Federal Work-Study Community Service

Suffolk looks forward to working with community organizations to establish work-study sites in order to ensure that all students who are awarded Federal Work-Study money can take advantage of the federal funds.

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally subsidized program that provides students the opportunity to work for eligible public or 501(c)(3) organizations. Suffolk students who have been awarded FWS as part of their financial aid package can choose to use the award to work off-campus. Students may earn their Federal Work-Study monies by performing work at an approved non-profit organization that provides jobs to serve the public interest and improve the quality of life for the community.

Hiring a Suffolk work-study student during the academic year is an inexpensive way for local organizations to get extra help with projects, while also helping Suffolk students integrate into the Greater Boston community. Community organizations are only responsible for paying 25 percent of the work-study student’s wages.

If your organization is interested in becoming a Suffolk-approved off-campus Federal Work-Study site, please contact the center.
