Earn a JD & MPH in as Few as 3.5 Years
Suffolk University Law School and Tufts University School of Medicine have partnered to offer a dual Juris Doctor/Master of Public Health (JD/MPH) degree. This program is designed for law students who want to combine legal training with advanced public health expertise—ideal for careers in health law, policy, government, and advocacy.
Through this collaboration, students benefit from the strengths of both institutions: Suffolk’s experiential legal education and Tufts’ nationally recognized public health program.
Why Pursue the JD/MPH Dual Degree?
- Accelerated Path: Complete both degrees in approximately 3.5-4.5 years, including two summer terms—saving time and tuition compared to pursuing each separately
- Interdisciplinary Advantage: Develop a deep understanding of public health systems, law, and policy—key for shaping equitable health outcomes
- Dual Campus Experience: Access the resources, networks, and faculty of two leading Boston-based institutions
How the Program Works
Students apply to Tufts’ MPH program either at the same time as their Suffolk Law application or after matriculating at Suffolk. Once admitted to both schools, students pursue an integrated curriculum:
- 84 credits of JD coursework at Suffolk Law, including up to 12 pre-approved law credits that also count toward the MPH
- 10 public health courses at Tufts
Each school confers its own degree upon completion of its requirements.
Flexible Timing, Strong Support
Students begin MPH coursework in the summer. Advisors at both institutions help students craft a schedule that meets all academic and graduation requirements.
