The John J. Moakley Law Library is accepting applications for motivated, detail-oriented student library workers. As a circulation/reserve student worker, you will regularly assist a diverse community of library patrons; we seek applicants with strong customer-service skills. This job does not require library experience, but a familiarity with library settings will serve you well! Hours may include nights and/or weekends.

Job Title
: Law Library Circulation/Reserve Student Worker

Hourly Pay Rate: $17.25

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand and effectively communicate Law Library policies and procedures
  • Answer patron queries at the circulation/reserve desk both in-person and on the phone
  • Check in and out materials for patrons
  • Assist with the study room reservation system
  • Help with special assignments and projects, as assigned
  • Retrieve reserve items for patrons and shelve books and other materials using the Library of Congress's Call number system.
  • Shelf maintenance (straightening, shifting and shelf reading)
  • May be responsible for opening and closing the law library.  The law library's regular hours are: Mondays - Fridays: 8am-11pm and Saturdays & Sundays 9am - 11pm
  • Assist with copy machines and printers, as well as with the microfiche/microfilm readers, scanners and printers (troubleshoot problems, re-fill paper and toner, etc.)
  • Refer reference and research questions to the research librarians
  • Notify the circulation supervisors of any problems related to the daily operation of the circulation desk
  • Walk throughout the law library, alone or with a co-worker to conduct hourly security and safety checks for leaks and building issues when staff are unavailable
  • Use the online catalog to search for items, place holds, renew items, search for and properly, and alert staff to missing items, or any software issues
  • Deliver library materials to faculty and staff and accept deliveries
  • Complete miscellaneous library tasks, as assigned
