Service After Hours and Service Day

Want to serve your community? The Center for Community Engagement offers a variety of community service opportunities throughout the year that serve the needs of our local community.

If we don't currently offer what you are looking for, we can tailor a volunteer opportunity to suit the type of experience you want or help you initiate a community service project in any area of interest.

Service Day

Every April, the Center for Community Engagement hosts a University-wide Service Day to bring Suffolk students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends together to make our community a better place. Together, we work in partnership with local nonprofit organizations in Greater Boston on critical community-based projects.

Join us on Friday, April 1, 2022 for our 24th Annual Service Day! You can sign up for service projects throughout the day between 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. People can sign up for one or more service projects as an individual or in a group. Spots fill up quickly, so sign up today.

Service After Hours

Are you passionate about a particular social issue that is impacting Boston like hunger and homelessness, or women’s empowerment, or the school-to-prison pipeline? Do you want to build lasting relationships with students and connect with a community organization that is working on this issue? Then join Service After Hours!

This past year, Service After Hours was a virtual program during COVID-19. Our virtual volunteer program provided a safe way for students to learn about the social issues impacting Boston and the organizations which address them. This year, we hosted several virtual community partner panels with local Boston community partners.

We plan to resume our in-person program as soon as it’s safe to do so. This is a weekly program where you can volunteer with the same organization each week for the semester or the year. This program connects you to other Suffolk students, helps build your network in Boston, and allows you to make a long-term impact in your community. You can join as a volunteer or take on a leadership role as a project leader, where you will learn valuable leadership skills and development, helping to empower other Suffolk students to get involved in their community.
