Fair Housing Alliance of Massachusetts
Fair Housing Alliance of Massachusetts (FHAM) is a consortium of four non-profit organizations working to end voucher-based and other forms of housing discrimination through legal services and education. The consortium consists of Community Legal Aid, the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center, SouthCoast Fair Housing, and Suffolk Law.
Eviction Record Relief Project
The Eviction Record Relief Project, supported by a grant from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, expands access to eviction record sealing under Massachusetts law. Through a series of high-impact clinics, the project provides direct legal assistance to tenants disproportionately harmed by eviction records, including low-income renters, immigrant communities, and households with limited English proficiency. Participants receive hands-on support to assess eligibility, prepare petitions, gather documentation, and complete electronic filings. When appropriate CHJP also provides legal representation in court motions and hearings to ensure that eligible cases are sealed.
In partnership with the Suffolk Legal Innovation and Technology Lab, the project also enhances the statewide eviction sealing e-filing tool to streamline the preparation and filing of eviction sealing petitions, improve accuracy, and support the operation of high-volume clinics. By combining legal services with technology innovation and rigorous evaluation, the project strengthens community capacity, including through partnerships with Metro Housing Boston and other organizations, broadening access to relief, and helping reduce the long-term housing instability associated with eviction records.
Boston Bar Foundation
The Center is proud to partner with the Boston Bar Foundation for an education campaign to provide families living in shelter with information on their fair housing rights when searching for housing.
Veterans Legal Advocacy Project (V-LAP)
Suffolk Law students working under supervision of faculty in the Accelerator to Practice clinic and Housing Discrimination Testing Program provide free legal assistance to veterans experiencing housing issues such as evictions, discrimination, and accommodations requests. V-LAP also provides free fair housing trainings for organizations that work with veterans so that they have resources and the ability to assist veterans experiencing fair housing issues. V-LAP is funded by generous donations from Suffolk Construction and Hinckley Allen. Contact V-LAP at 617-884-7568, if we can provide assistance. Learn more.
